The All-New Fire HD 8 is the most affordable of the new tablets. The 8-inch 1280×800 display means you’ll get a crisp experience while watching movies and TV shows. The tablet comes equipped with 2GB of RAM and a quad-core 2GHz processor.

It is available in 32GB or 64GB variants, although this can be expanded up to 1TB via a microSD card. The All-New Fire HD 8 now uses a USB-C charging port, meaning that the tablet will fully charge in just five hours.

As with the company’s other devices, the tablet comes pre-loaded with Amazon services like Prime Video, Kindle, and Amazon Music. There’s also support for Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant. The brand-new Game Mode allows you to enjoy a distraction-free gaming experience on the tablet, too.

All-New Fire HD 8 Plus

When a smartphone launches with a Plus model, that often means the device is physically larger. That’s not the case here; the Plus refers to the additional services and component upgrades found on the All-New Fire HD 8 Plus.

The tablet comes with 3GB of RAM, a 2GHz quad-core processor, and support for wireless charging. There’s also a specialized 9W charger included, which can fully charge your Fire HD 8 Plus in just four hours.

All-New Fire HD 8 Kids Edition

The Fire HD tablets are firm favorites for families. The low-cost devices are easy to use and, as they are geared towards Amazon’s entertainment services, generally family-friendly, too. However, the All-New Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is specifically tailored to younger children.

The tablet comes in a colorful bumper, which protects it against unexpected drops and knocks. The software is adapted, too, using Amazon’s Fire for Kids interface. This keeps all media, including ebooks, videos, and audio, age-appropriate. There are improved parental controls available as well.

The Best Affordable Android Tablets

The newly-launched Fire HD 8 tablets can be pre-ordered on Amazon now, and the company expects shipments to start on June 3rd, 2020. Despite coming loaded with Amazon’s services, they are still a great deal even if you don’t use that ecosystem.

That said, if you think these entertainment devices don’t quite suit your needs, consider one of the best tablets for reading digital books instead.

The Sonos Arc Soundbar Brings Theater-Quality Audio to Your Home

For years, people have set up their homes to replicate the theater experience. That’s often been through immersive televisions, curved screens, smart lighting, or high-quality soundbars.

Sonos, the famed audio manufacturer, has announced its latest smart soundbar, the Sonos Arc, that promises to bring cinema-quality audio to your home. Here’s everything you need to know about the Sonos Arc.

What Is the Sonos Arc?

The Sonos Arc is the latest product in the company’s smart home audio lineup. Like many soundbars on the market, the Arc is an unassuming long, thin speaker designed to fit comfortably underneath your TV. However, Sonos’ devices come equipped with the company’s technology, and that’s their key difference to other equipment.

All Sonos devices connect to your Wi-Fi network and can then interact with each other. This means you could own one of their speakers, place it in your bedroom, and synchronize playback with your other Sonos products by putting them into a Group. This interaction isn’t done on the device, though. Your primary contact with the speaker is through the Sonos controller app, which is available for mobile and desktop.

The app allows you to change audio sources, install firmware updates, schedule alarms, and change the EQ of each speaker individually. If you already own a Sonos product, you’ll be familiar with the controller. However, with the launch of the Arc, the company is also debuting a new Sonos app, which will allow you to customize the experience further.

Sonos Arc Features

Sonos Arc soundbar with Sonos Sub

One of the most notable features of the Arc is the inclusion of Dolby Atmos technology. This surround sound experience is found in many theaters around the world and has been making appearances in home cinema setups since 2017. However, this marks the first time Dobly Atmos can be found in any Sonos product.

The improved audio quality is further bolstered by the new Sonos app, which makes it possible to tweak settings like Speech Enhancement to emphasize voices, and Night Sound to reduce the volume of loud sound effects. Using Sonos’ TruePlay tuning, the Arc creates an acoustic profile of your room and automatically changes settings for the most immersive experience.

The Arc soundbar is undoubtedly aimed at home theater experiences. However, you can continue to use the speaker even once the TV is shut off. Using the Sonos app, you can listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, and radio using the services integrated with Sonos’ platform. This includes popular apps like Spotify, YouTube Music, Tidal, Pocket Casts, and Audible.

Sonos’ most recent speakers also include support for voice assistants, and the same is true of the Arc. You can interact with Google Assistant and Alexa, and control the soundbar with the Sonos app, your TV remote, and Apple AirPlay 2.

Where Can You Buy the Sonos Arc?

The Sonos Arc will be available from June 10th, 2020, with an expected retail price of $799. You can pre-order the Sonos Arc from the Sonos website, too.

The company also announced the upgraded Sonos Sub, allowing you to add extra bass to your Sonos setup. The Sub, along with a new edition of the Sonos Five speaker, can also be pre-ordered through the Sonos website.

While there’s a lot to like about the Arc, it isn’t the only soundbar available to you. If you’re interested in upgrading your home audio setup, consider one of the best soundbars for audiophiles on a budget.

Tempo Wants You to Keep Fit With Its Studio Home Gym

Countries around the world have entered lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This has unfortunately meant that many of us are now stuck indoors and unable to exercise. However, you now have an option to keep fit while staying safe.

Following a successful pre-order earlier in the year, the smart home gym Tempo Studio is now available to buy. The launch was initially planned for June but has been moved up to help those isolated at home. The company is even committed to delivering their products even throughout the pandemic.

So, here’s everything you need to know about the Tempo Studio.

What Is the Tempo Studio?

The Tempo Studio is a home gym and digital fitness companion. The free-standing unit is large, so you’ll need a dedicated space for it, but its size is justified. The front of the device is covered by a 42-inch HD touchscreen, which is where you’ll interact with the real-time, AI-powered fitness assistant.

Your workout is monitored via the Tempo Vision setup, which uses a camera and infrared light to create a 3D model of your body from a total of 80,000 data points. The software blends these points into 25 essential joints, which it uses to assess your workout.

This is displayed to the live coach, who monitors each class, allowing them to offer real-time guidance. To calm the fears of privacy-advocates, the Studio only generates a skeleton model of your workout and doesn’t display footage of you or your home.

The Tempo Studio’s frame is made from aluminum and weighs 100lbs. The unit comes equipped with 60W stereo speakers and connectivity via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It is powered by a 10th generation Intel i5 processor, coupled with an Nvidia graphics card.

Tempo Studio Features

Tempo Studio smart home gym

According to the company, early access users were reportedly 135 percent more active during the Tempo Studio trial period. The convenience of a home workout certainly helps. Workout apps and YouTube videos are acceptable alternatives to a full workout, but they lack some of the critical features of a personal training or gym session.

Often, it’s the personal touch that is missing. A trainer can help improve your form, motivate you, and guide you to help you develop over time. The Tempo Studio’s AI-based software uses the built-in camera to monitor your performance and enables personalized feedback. Not only does this help you get better results, but it also means you can workout safer at home without the risk of overexercising or causing injury.

While the digital side of the Tempo Studio is the standout feature, it is supported by a physical kit, too. The unit comes with a barbell, two dumbells, 16 plates, and six collars. Alongside that, there is a heart rate monitor, workout mat, and even a recovery roller. All of this can be neatly stored within the Tempo unit.

Where Can You Buy the Tempo Studio?

You can buy the Tempo Studio directly from the company’s website. The device costs $1995, but financing options can bring this down to $55 per month. To use the Studio’s digital services, you’ll need a subscription, too, which is a further $39 per month. However, the subscription does cover everyone in your household.

If your budget can’t stretch that far, or if you aren’t won over by the Tempo Studio, you do have other options for staying healthy while at home. For instance, you could try out one of these free workout apps and fitness tips to keep fit indoors.

DOOGEE Launches the Ultra-Affordable X95 Android Smartphone

DOOGEE has made a name for itself by releasing high-quality, affordable Android smartphones. However, the company has always been able to find a balance between features and price. As a result, their phones aren’t lacking.

That’s also true of the newly-launched DOOGEE X95.

What Is the DOOGEE X95?

DOOGEE X95 smartphone

In many ways, the DOOGEE X95 resembles any entry-level Android smartphone. You won’t find newsworthy features like a foldable screen or 5G compatibility here. However, at just $60, there is a lot to love about this phone.

The device comes with a 6.52-inch HD edge-to-edge display. The coating process was also considered so that the resulting screen complements the colors of the display.

The X95 runs Android 10, the latest edition of Google’s mobile operating system. So, surprisingly, this means you get all the newest software features as standard on this cheap Android smartphone. Improved privacy controls, system-wide dark mode, and stock Android separate this device from other affordable smartphones.

DOOGEE X95 Specifications

DOOGEE X95 smartphone in multiple colors

The X95 comes with 32GB of onboard storage and is equipped with 2GB of RAM. This is coupled with a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor and a Mali T720 MP GPU. This is remarkable for a phone at this price point and even makes it capable of running some of the most popular mobile games.

As is becoming increasingly commonplace, the X95 features a tripe-lens rear camera setup. Two 2MP lenses flank the primary 13MP sensor. The depth-sensing lens means you can even take photos that blur the background, a feature typically found only on mid-range and flagship phones.

The X95 uses a 4,350mAh battery to achieve almost 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. The only deviation from modern design can be found here, though; the phone uses a micro-USB charging port rather than the latest USB-C standard.

Mid-Range Smartphones at Entry-Level Prices

If this absurdly cheap Android smartphone has swayed you, then you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on it; the DOOGEE X95 is available to buy now from DOOGEE’s online store for $59.99.

As enticing as the X95 is, perhaps you want more options before investing. In that case, check out our roundup of the best budget smartphones available today.

Polar’s Grit X Smartwatch Is the Ultimate Outdoor Fitness Companion

Fitness-focused technology brand Polar has been releasing well-received fitness trackers and smartwatches for many years now. Their products are the ideal choice for exercise enthusiasts.

The company has just launched its latest wearable, the Polar Grit X. The smartwatch has been designed with outdoor exercise in mind, combining hardware and software to track your workout effectively.

What Is the Polar Grit X?

The Polar Grit X is a rugged smartwatch, packed with sensors and equipped with Google’s Wear OS operating system. It builds upon its high-end Vantage range of watches. However, the Grit X is one of Polar’s most comprehensive devices to date.

Adding to its outdoor credentials, the watch is designed to the US military-grade standard MIL-STD-810G. Despite this, it won’t weigh down your wrist, as it measures just 64 grams. If you plan to be away from home for an extended period while hiking or on endurance events, you won’t need to worry about the battery dying on you, either.

The Polar Grit X has an estimated 40-hour battery life while in use. When combined with the various power-saving settings available on the watch, you may be able to stretch this out to an incredible 100 hours.

Polar Grit X Features

Polar Grit X smartwatch

One of the most notable inclusions is the new Hill Splitter feature. This enables the watch to detect the uphill and downhill parts of your workout automatically. As a result, the Polar app can then offer you detailed performance reporting. This is a common theme among the Grit X’s features. Most of them don’t just record your workout; they analyze it, too.

Software capabilities like FuelWise, a rehydration and nutrition companion, and Komoot, turn-by-turn GPS guidance, alongside two-day weather forecasts, provide an end-to-end assistant to your workout. This is coupled with Polar’s Smart Coach, which combines heart rate data, FitSpark training plans, and personalized sleep analysis courtesy of Nightly Recharge.

Of course, other much-loved Polar highlights are here too, including their mobile app and web hub. The watch provides some of this analysis and feedback, but it’s using the Polar Flow software that you can really dig into your performance and training tips.

Where Can You Buy the Polar Grit X?

The Polar Grix X smartwatch is available to purchase now from Polar’s website for $429.95 and comes in black and green for medium and large sizes. The small/medium edition comes in white.

OnePlus Unveils the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Android Smartphones

OnePlus has built a reputation for producing some of the most reliable and high-end Android phones, giving much-needed competition for Samsung.

Fortunately, then, the company has unveiled its latest flagship devices; the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro.

OnePlus 8

OnePlus 8

The OnePlus 8 comes equipped with a 6.55-inch 1080×2400 HD display. This edge-to-edge screen is covered in Gorilla Glass for impact protection, too. Previous OnePlus devices featured the controversial notch at the top of the display. However, the OnePlus 8 opts for a small punch hole for the selfie camera, instead.

This front-facing 16MP camera uses the Sony IMX471 sensor. The rear camera uses a three-lens arrangement, a 48MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and 16MP ultra-wide sensor.

The phone features Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and GPS. For the first time on a OnePlus device, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro both support 5G networks, too.

The OnePlus 8 runs the company’s OxygenOS based on Android 10. There’s an option for either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The phone uses the Snapdragon 865 CPU and is supported with a 4,300mAh battery.

The OnePlus 8 is available in Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow, and Onyx Black. The base configuration will be available for $799.

OnePlus 8 Pro

Following in the footsteps of other flagship manufacturers, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a larger, more expensive, and more feature-packed edition of the phone.

The device weighs 199g, making it almost 20g heavier than the OnePlus 8. However, this is to accommodate the larger 6.79-inch, 3168×1440 resolution display. To support this, the battery is also larger at 4,510mAh.

The phone shares the same CPU as its smaller sibling and is also available with 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The 48MP rear camera uses the upgraded Sony IMX689 sensor. The ultra-wide lens also receives an upgrade to 48MP.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is also available in Glacial Green and Onyx Black, alongside Ultramarine Blue. The base configuration will be available for $999.

Which Flagship Smartphone Will You Choose?

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro show that the company wants to position these as flagship devices to rival those from Samsung and Apple. Both phones will be available to order from April 15, 2020 at the OnePlus Store.

It’s also noteworthy that the new smartphones will launch with 5G support. If you are concerned by the latest technology, find out whether 5G is safe or dangerous before investing.

PINE64 Launches the Linux-based PinePhone UBports Community Edition

For the most part, if you’re looking for a smartphone, you have two choices; Android or iOS. The iPhone is a single device tightly controlled by Apple. Google’s Android platform offers greater selection and a wider range of prices.

However, PINE64, a manufacturer of Linux-based hardware, produce the PinePhone. The device is already available in a range of mobile Linux editions. Now, there’s a new addition to the lineup; the PinePhone UBports Community Edition.

What Is the PinePhone UBports Community Edition?

PINE64 PinePhone UBports Community Edition smartphone

The physical device looks similar to a mid-range Android device. The body of the phone is black plastic, with only the UBports logo on the rear. This is where you’ll also find the 5MP primary camera. There’s a 2MP front-facing lens, as well.

A small bezel surrounds the 5.95-inch HD display, and the phone weighs 185g. The phone is powered by the ARM Cortex A-53 CPU and supported with 2GB of SDRAM.

While there’s only 16GB of onboard storage, it can be expanded via microSD up to an astounding 2TB. The 3,000mAh battery is removable, too.

The PinePhone UBports Community Edition charges via USB-C, includes a GPS sensor, and comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 support.

The hardware may be entry-level, but the exciting thing about this phone—aside from the $150 price tag—is the software.

What Is UBports?

In the years since the launch of the original iPhone, there have been many attempts to develop an alternative smartphone operating system. So far, the only viable option has been Google’s Android.

However, neither platform fully caters to the passionate contingent of Linux supporters. Apple’s closed-source environment sits in direct opposition to Linux’s foundations. Android’s dependence on Google services is also a source of contention.

UBports is a community of developers contributing to the Ubuntu Touch software, a mobile-friendly port of Ubuntu. The platform inevitably suffers some of the same pitfalls as other alternatives, like the lack of a fully-stocked app store. However, it’s integration with the main Linux distro is a crucial feature.

For instance, UBports is working on Convergence—the ability to plug your phone into any monitor and expand into desktop mode. To satisfy the Linux faithful, you’ll find a full Ubuntu Terminal available on the phone, along with a host of other open-source apps preinstalled.

Of course, one of the main draws here is that the UBports Ubuntu Touch is genuinely open-source, rather than the restrictive semi open-source nature of Android. There’s also OpenStore, an app store for third-party developers.

Where Can You Buy the PinePhone UBports Community Edition?

The PinePhone UBports Community Edition is available to pre-order on the Pine64 Store for $150 and is expected to ship in late May 2020.

If you want to experiment with a Linux-based smartphone, but don’t want to buy a new device, there are options. When you feel ready to make the switch from Android, check out these Linux smartphone operating systems for inspiration.

HMD Global Unveils Future-proof 5G Nokia Smartphones

During these uncertain times, it’s important to look toward the future.

Despite the world-wide disruption, HMD Global—the company behind the recent Nokia revival—has unveiled a series of 5G capable Android smartphones that are designed to operate on 5G network bands across the world.

Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to.

Nokia 8.3 5G

HMD Global Nokia 8.3 5G

The Nokia 8.3 5G is the flagship device of the recent announcement. According to HMD Global, the smartphone is designed to be future-proof. To that end, the Nokia 8.3 5G should be able to support most 5G networks around the world, regardless of the cell network’s operating band.

Previously, devices purchased in, say, the US don’t typically support European LTE or 4G networks, and vice versa. Not only does this mean that your device is region-locked when you purchase it, but it complicates international travel, too.

The Nokia 8.3 5G will be the first smartphone to use the new Qualcomm 5G RF Front-end module and helps the device to combine 40 different radio-frequency components onto a single electronics module.

Alongside this development, the phone is equipped with a PureView quad-lens camera with ZEISS optics. Combined with the ZEUSS Cinema feature, this will allow you to film high-quality video even in poor or low-light environments. In a nod to their Finnish roots, the phone comes in a Polar Night color, inspired by the arctic sky.

Nokia 5.3

HMD Global Nokia 5.3

The Nokia 5.3 is designed with value in mind. It is intended as a continuation of Nokia’s entry-level smartphones, which have gained a well-deserved reputation for value. This phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 CPU, helping it achieve an almost two-day battery life.

The quad-lens setup enables high-quality captures, especially when combined with a software-based AI to optimize the image. This should even be true in low-light thanks to the phone’s Night Mode. The phone has a 6.55-inch screen and is expected to ship with Android 10.

Nokia 5310

HMD Global Nokia 5310

If this name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The Nokia 5310 is a 2020 redesign of the original 5310 device, first launched in 2007. This is part of HMD Global’s Originals lineup, which also includes the famed Nokia 3310.

This is not a smartphone, though. However, the feature phone does come with some modern updates. There’s a built-in MP3 player and FM radio, as well as dual front-facing speakings for music wherever you are. The design makes nods to the original while also bringing it into Nokia’s current visual aesthetic.

5G Smartphones Are Coming

Nokia isn’t the first to announce their latest 5G smartphones, but they are among the most affordable. The Nokia 8.3 5G also looks set to be one of the most interesting of the current releases as it is future-proof and practical, especially for international users.

However, if you’re after more choice for the upcoming 5G upgrade, here are the best 5G smartphones available today.

Sony Unveils PlayStation 5 Technical Hardware Specifications

The spread of a global pandemic has been an unsettling time for people around the world. Amid the chaos, the tech industry has been disrupted, too, with announcements delayed and hardware releases postponed.

Fortunately, we now have something to look forward to. Using an online presentation, Sony has given us the first technical details of the upcoming PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 5: What We Know

Sony opted for a deep-dive into the PlayStation 5’s technical specifications with lead system architect Mark Cerny. While you can watch the entire 50-minute presentation using the video above, here’s a rundown of what we know so far.

The console will be powered by an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, with eight cores and 16 threads. It’ll come with 16GB of RAM, alongside 825GB of SSD storage. The disk can read at 5.5GB/s and is combined with a custom I/O system. The result of this ultra-high-speed setup is the reduction of loading times and removal of loading screens.

There’ll also be a high power Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) designed specifically for the PS5. This will enable the system’s 4K output, as well as ray tracing support. Your games will be even more realistic thanks to this combination of high-resolution graphics and life-like visuals.

On top of this visual performance, there are audio upgrades, too. The PS5 will come with Tempest 3D AudioTech for a more immersive experience. This’ll enhance your gameplay experience, and lead to a greater sense of location within the game.

Fortunately, the PlayStation 5 will be backward compatible to a degree. Sony has analyzed the top 100 PS4 games and confirmed those would be playable at launch.

The Next Generation of Games Consoles

The PlayStation 5 is a huge step forward for gamers around the world. Crucially, though, the hardware is primed for the future. While Sony has given us the most in-depth presentation so far, they aren’t the only ones prepping a next-generation console.

Microsoft has also got their eyes set on the future with the powerful Xbox Series X. Although initially slated for release in late 2020, as with the PS5, this date will likely change over the coming months.

LG Unveils The Dual-Screen LG V60 ThinQ 5G Smartphone

‘Tis the season for smartphone launches. After the cancelation of Mobile World Congress (MWC), many brands have gone ahead with launches outside of the international electronics event.

Not one to be left out, LG has announced its latest flagship device, the dual-screen LG V60 ThinQ 5G.

What Is the LG V60 ThinQ 5G?

LG V60 ThinQ 5G Smartphone

As recent launches by the likes of Samsung and Motorola show, foldable smartphones are very much in at the moment. The LG V60 ThinQ 5G takes a slightly different approach to increase screen real-estate. The company makes a clear distinction; this is not a foldable phone, but a dual-screen one, instead. To avoid adding additional bulk to the phone, the dual-screen setup is optional, too.

The second screen is an accessory device bundled with the phone. Rather than being permanently attached, you can clip the screen accessory onto the V60 ThinQ 5G as required. Both screens come with 20.5:9 ratio FHD+ P-OLED displays. They are also half an inch larger than previous models. The focus of the dual-screen is productivity, so you can multitask as much—or as little—as you’d like.

LG V60 ThinQ 5G dual-screen smartphone

As the name suggests, this phone supports 5G networks; an essential feature for new phones as these high-speed networks come online. However, the 5,000mAh battery means that, even with the improved connection, you should comfortably make it through a day without needing a top-up. The phone ships with Android 10, the latest edition of Google’s smartphone platform.

In keeping with other flagship devices, the LG V60 ThinQ 5G sports a tripe-lens rear camera setup. There’s a 64MP primary lens, a 13MP super-wide lens, and a depth sensor. Thanks to this, the phone can record 8K video, too. Notably, the device also includes a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth 5.1, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. It is even IP68-rated for water and dust resistance.

Where Can You Buy the LG V60 ThinQ 5G?

There’s no lengthy pre-order period with the V60 ThinQ 5G. Instead, the phone will be available from late March across North America, Europe, and Asia. Although we don’t have a price for the device yet, LG did confirm that it’ll be cheaper than the equivalent Samsung Galaxy S20 device. In all likelihood, you should expect the V60 ThinQ 5G to retail at around the $1,000 mark.

The price of flagship smartphones seems to be increasing each year. That said, if you are after the best smartphones of 2020, you do have a choice. Be sure to check out everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. And if that doesn’t hit the spot, there’s also the latest Sony Xperia lineup, too.
